KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent suspect Tauseef Ahmed Siddiqui, owner of the M/s SARAS International, to Central Jail Karachi on a 14-day judicial remand in a case of attempting to smuggle 508 black spotted turtles to Malaysia. The suspect was arrested by officials of Intelligence and Investigation (Customs Enforcement) Karachi.
During the hearing, investigation officer Farhat Ullah Jafri produced accused Tauseef Ahmed Siddiqui before the Customs Court judge and informed that the investigation has not yet completed, therefore court may grant further extension in physical remand. However, the court declined his request and sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand.
According to the prosecution, the staff of the Directorate General, Intelligence & Investigation- BR (Customs Enforcement) Karachi, has lodged FIR no 36/2016 dated 16/08/2016 against accused Abdul Hameed of M/s Al Hameed Enterprises, Karachi M/s SARAS International and others, who have been found involved in the smuggling and illegal export of 508 black spotted turtles, Shipped to Klang Selangor, Malaysia vide good declaration dated 2504/2016 filed through M/s SARAS International, Karachi under the garb of export of 29 matric tons of fresh potatoes of Pakistan origin.
Investigation officer further informed the court that the during the investigation it transpired that the consignment terminal through Green Channel of computerized system on declaration without physical examination and assessment through Customs Export, Customs House, Karachi. Accused Tauseef Ahmed Siddiqui owner of M/s SARAS International, who played vital role in the commission of offence has been arrested on 22/08/2016.
