KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against suspect namely Ghulam Muhammad son Muhammad, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle spare parts, betel nuts, foreign origin cloth worth Rs7,893,000.
On 13 January 2020, investigation officer of customs preventive submitted interim charge sheet before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino passenger bus bearing registration number BSB-747 and during the search found betel nuts engine crankshaft, Red Bull energy drink, spare parts, plastic pati, foreign origin cloth, foreign origin blankets, cutch block etc.
He further said that after the search, he was asked to produce lawful document, however, he failed to produce any lawful document, therefore, he was arrested and goods were seized by customs officials and during the investigation, it was found that suspect is involved in smuggling goods amounting to Rs7,893,000.
He argued that prosecution has been done, therefore, charge sheet is being produced before the court and final charge sheet will be submitted whenever, deep investigation has been completed, therefore, court is requested to accept it.
After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and adjourned the case for copy supply to accused person.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
