KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspect namely Dad Muhammad son of Syed Muhammad, who was nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle betel nuts, tyres, curtain cloth, etc.
On 5 November 2019, investigation officer appeared before the court and informed that above mentioned suspect is still absconder and will be produced before the court when arrested. According to the prosecution, on an actionable information, customs team intercepted YUTONG Al-Mahmood coach bearing registration number BSA-8243 and during the search found 38 PP bags containing foreign origin betel nuts weighing 1259 kg valuing of Rs629500, 30 bundles each containing 5 tyres total 150 tyres valuing of Rs939000, 5 tyes HI-FLY brand new origin China valuing of Rs115395 and 6 rolls containing foreign origin curtain cloth weighing 156 kgs valuing of Rs279520.
Investigation officer further informed the court that during the investigation, it was established that above-mentioned suspect and others have committed this offence and evaded huge money in terms of duties and taxes. According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of section 2(s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses (89) of Section 156 (1) further read with section 156(2) ibid.
