KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against suspects Samiullah son of Muhammad Ishaq, Ziaduddin son of Roziuddin and Najeed Ullah son of Muhammad Yousaf, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 3560 kilograms betel nuts worth Rs707,728.
On May 06, 2019, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet against the above-named suspects and informed the court that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted one Hino Mini Truck bearing registration no: MNO-7288 model 1990 and recovered 106 bags assorted size and weight containing total 3560 kgs foreign origin betel nuts valuing Rs707.728.
He submitted that during the search, suspects failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods along with truck were seized and suspects were also arrested by customs team and further submitted that during the investigation, it was confirmed that suspects were deliberately involved in smuggling of goods and evading of duties and taxes.
After the hearing, court approved interim charge sheet and directed him to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2(s) 156(2) 157(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clause (8) (89) of Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (i) of Imports and Export Control Act, 1950.
