KARACHI: The Customs Court granted after arrest bail to suspects namely Muhammad Ishaq son of Abdul Kareem and Muhammad Hashim son of Abdul Kareem, who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband goods.
On August 2, 2019, during the hearing, above mentioned suspects appeared before the court along with their counsel and moved petitions for after arrest bail and argued that their clients are innocent and have been falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to submit amount as surety, therefore, court may grant their after arrest bail.
After the hearing, court granted their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed them to appear on next date of hearing without fail.
Earlier, investigation officer has submitted charge sheet before the court and informed that prosecution team intercepted a LPG gas tanker registration number: TLD-157 and recovered 20886 kilogram betel nuts and 2430 packets Safina Gutkha and during the search, suspects failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods along with truck were seized and suspects also were arrested by customs team.
After the hearing, court has accepted interim charge sheet and fixed the case for regular hearing. As per charge sheet, investigation officer Muhammad Mahmood, Abdul Latif, Ghous Bakash and others’ names were mentioned in charge sheet as witnesses
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 156(2) 157(2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (8) (89) of section 156 (1) ibid read with section 3 (i) of Imports and Export Control Act, 1950.
