KARACHI: The Customs Court granted after arrest bail to suspect namely Rozi Khan and directed him to make sure to appear on each and every date of hearing, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 13, 176 kilogram betel nuts etc.
On July 24, 2019, counsel for the accused appeared before the court and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail and will give surety as bail, therefore, court may grant his after arrest bail, after the hearing, court granted his bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed him to appear on next date of hearing without fail.
According to the prosecution, on an actionable information, customs team intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number TPK-971 and during the search, prosecution recovered 13,176 kilogram betel nuts and other goods which were being smuggled from Baluchistan to Karachi for their illegal disposal, he argued that suspect was asked to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after fulfillment of legal formalities, he was taken into custody and goods also were seized.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
