KARACHI: The Customs Court approved after arrest bail of suspect Ghulam Muhammad son of Muhammad who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle spare parts, betel nuts, foreign origin cloth etc worth Rs7,893,000.
On 29 January 2020, counsel for the accused filed after arrest bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case, therefore, court may grant his bail till final judgment in this case.
After the hearing court approved his bail against the surety of Rs 100,000 and directed him to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino passenger bus bearing registration number: BSB-747 and during the search found betel nuts engine crankshaft, Red Bull energy drink, spare parts, plastic pati, foreign origin cloth, foreign origin blankets, cutch block etc.
Investigation officer had said that after the search, driver was asked to produce lawful document, however, he fails to produce any lawful document, therefore, he was arrested and goods were seized by customs officials and during the investigation, it was found that suspect is involved in smuggling goods amounting to Rs 7,893,000.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
