KARACHI: Naeem Sajid, who was arrested in many cases of Safoora tragedy, filed his bail application before the Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court in a case of attempting to smuggle illegal arms. Customs Court judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi issued notices to special prosecutor customs and prosecution on the bail application.
During the hearing, Sajid was produced from Central Jail Karachi, however, the investigation officer Siraj Panhwar was called absent, therefore, the court adjourned the hearing for November 18, 2016.
Earlier, counsel for the accused/ applicant stated in his bail application that according to the prosecution, on a credible information dated August 21, 2014 staff of the FIA intercepted the accused person namely Mumtaz-ud-din and recovered from his bag contained 25 lower parts of Glock pistol and 97 magazines of Glock pistol, who failed to produce legal documents.
FIR further stated that during the investigation Mumtaz-ud-din disclosed that he had brought four such consignments previously on different occasions and he used to bring above contraband items for Col. Hafeez of NADRA against which accused received payment through cheques. Therefore FIR was registered and investigation has been started.
According to the bail application, when investigation officer filed interim charge sheet in which his name was not mentioned, however, investigation officer, Siraj Panhwar is a notorious officer, incompetent and inefficient misused his status of IO and inspector FIA, illegally, without any lawful justification the name of the applicant inserted in the final charge sheet dated 29/10/2015 without assigning any role. Counsel for the applicant pleaded the Customs Court to approve his bail petition.
