KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bailable warrants against absconding suspects namely Shah Muhammad alias Laly, Haji Khair Jan, Haji Qadir Brohi, Saleem Agha and Toor Khan, who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts and Indian gutka.
On December 21, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Preventive submitted interim challan against the above-mentioned absconders and informed the court that on an actionable information that a passenger bus (New Shandar coach) bearing registration number: BSB-808 carrying contraband gutka and betel nuts is going from Balochistan via northern Bypass Super Highway to Karachi.
He further submitted that the same bus was intercepted and integrated two persons namely Abdul Rahaman (driver) and Kalim Ullah (cleaner) and after removing the passengers seats from inside the said bus found 2070 kilogram betel nuts worth Rs550,620; 808 packets of One-2-One brand, Indian gutka, total 101,000 pouches and 3072 packets of VM-88 gutka, made in India, total 291,840 pouches.
Investigation officer stated that after the formalities both persons were taken into custody and goods also were seized by the customs officials. He said that six suspects are still absconders in this case and they will be produced before the court when arrested.
After hearing, the court accepted interim challan and issued non-bailable warrants against absconders.
