LAHORE: The Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Lahore has accepted bail of a suspect in a smuggling case against surety bonds of Rs 1.8 million.
Mhammad Zaman Arif was arrested by Anti-Smuggling Organization at Lahore Airport when he was trying to smuggle 138 mobile phones from Dubai to Pakistan. After Investigation, ASO presented him before the court where honorable court accepted his bail against Rs 1.8 million bonds.
Customs officials searched Muhammad Zaman Arif and at Allama Iqbal International Airport and found 138 mobile phones including HTC, iphone, Samsung, LG and others.
The accused could not produce required documents and consequently was held by the Customs authorities on duty. The accused purchased the used mobiles from Hong Kong and he is not identified as professional, the Customs authorities elaborated adding that this was his first attempt to smuggle the used mobile and was caught.
Total value of the mobile phones was estimated to be Rs 1.8 million. The Customs authorities arrested the accused and registered FIR. The Special Judge Customs sent the accused on two day remand for further investigations. On Friday Customs taxation and Anti Smuggling Court granted his release at surety bonds of Rs 1.8 million
