MANGALURU: Officials of Customs at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Wednesday seized foreign currency — 6,600 British Pounds — equivalent to Rs 6,49,400 from two passengers. They are Muhammed Salih Yarool, 36, and Muhammed Ashraf Abdulla, 35, both hailing from Pallikere in Kasargod district.
They were nabbed at the time of their departure from MIA by Air India Express flight IX383 to Dubai. S Rajarethinam, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangaluru said the duo were attempting to smuggle foreign currency without valid money exchange document. Both had 3,300 British Pounds each on their possession. Further investigation is under progress, the customs officials stated.
