ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) team on Saturday seized huge quantity of non-duty paid goods worth Rs30 million from Nankari Bazar Rawalpindi while culprits successfully fled away from the spot.
Collector Seema Raza Bokhari received credible information that huge quantity of betel nuts and smuggled cigarettes were dumped in various godowns located near Jamil Market Nankari Nazar Rawalpindi.
Pursuing the said information Additional Collector Muhammad Ashfaq Khan formed a squad under the supervision of Superintendent Matloob Shah which raided different godowns at the above said locations.
Sources told that the anti-smuggling squad seized 11470 kilograms of Indian origin non-duty paid smuggled goods and 1100 dandas of different foreign origin cigarettes. The value of above-seized goods estimated worth Rs30 million.
The sources further told that owners of the godowns escaped from the scene. The anti-smuggling squad shifted the goods at State Warehouse while case has been forwarded to the Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further investigation.
Collector Seema Raza Bukhari lauded the performance of ASO to curb smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction.
