LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement and Compliance Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized huge quantity of smuggled / non-duty paid goods and vehicles during July,2020 to November, 2020 worth Rs2089.44 million.
Sources told that Anti-Smuggling Organization of Customs Collectorate Enforcement & Compliance on the directions of Basit Maqsood Abbasi, Collector of Customs headed by Muteen Alam, Additional Collector, Ali Tauqir, Assistant Collector, and team consisting Nasir Saeed, Abdul Rehman Butt, Hassan Mehmood, Abdul Ghaffar and M. Asghar Purewal, inspectors seized huge quantity of smuggled / non-duty paid goods and vehicles during July, 2020 to November, 2020 worth Rs2089.44 million. Goods include cloth, tyres, cigarettes, petroleum jelly, diesel oil, crockery, dry fruits, medicines, cosmetics, jewelry, charas etc.
Vehicles include Toyota Lexus jeeps, Toyota Land Cruiser (V8), Toyota Hilux Surf, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota Mark X, Toyota Vitz cars. Cases worth Rs494.45 million were made during the corresponding period of last year (2019-20). An increase of 322.58 percent is registered as compared with the corresponding period of last year.
Earlier, it was reported that Customs Lahore seized over Rs2 billions’ contraband goods, vehicles during July 1to November 14, 2020, registering a handsome growth of 367.73 percent as compared to the same period last financial year.
MCC Enforcement & Compliance, Lahore has thus delivered an unprecedented performance since the new financial year began in July 2020.
The staff of Anti-Smuggling under leadership of the Collector and additional collector, crossed Rs2 billion mark in seizures since July 1, 2020 showing a positive growth of 367.73 percent as compared to same period last financial year.
The Customs staff raided 36 godowns recovering smuggled goods worth Rs840 million. Amongst the major items seized include smuggled/ non-duty paid dry fruits, tyres, skimmed milk, cigarettes, petroleum products and luxury vehicles.
