MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Mianwali squad seized huge quantity of foreign origin Red Chili seeds of worth Rs3 million during crackdown.
Collector Muneeza Majeed received credible information from source regarding the smuggling of goods and he directed Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
Additional collector formed special anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Inspector Tahir Iqbal who also includes Inspector Ramzan Shahid, Inspector Javed Iqbal Butt and others.
In pursuance of the said information, Anti-smuggling Squad started surveillance of suspected routes to foil any attempt of smuggling.
Customs anti-smuggling squad continued patrolling at the Mianwali roads and spotted the suspected truck coming from Jhang.
Anti-Smuggling Organization team seized a truck loaded with huge quantity of Red Chilli seeds during examination. Customs teams recovered 345 sacks of Red Chilli seeds during their examination. The net weight of the consignment was almost 16300 kilograms.
Upon checking, it was found that accompanied GD was old dated and irrelevant. Subsequently, the Truck along with the huge quantity of Red Chilli Seed was seized under the Customs Act, 1969. The net value of the seized consignment was almost Rs3 million and their duty taxes were Rs.3.5 million. The value of seized truck was almost Rs6 million.
It is pertinent to mention here that Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization is using all available resources to curb smuggling attempts in the jurisdiction, as smugglers are taking advantage of current COVID-19 situation in the region.
