LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement and Compliance (E&C) foiled a bid to smuggle dry fruit worth Rs 20 million.
Sources told Customs Today that a credible information was received through Basit Maqsood Abbasi, Collector of Customs regarding movement of non-duty paid/ smuggled dry fruit from Quetta to Lahore through truck bearing registration no:TKW-162.
In pursuance of such information, an anti-smuggling squad ASO under the supervision of Muteen Alam, Additional Collector which also includes Ali Tauqir, Assistant Collector, Abdul Hameed Bhatti, Abdul Rehman Butt, Nasir Saeed, Asghar Purewal was consituted. The anti-smuggling squad intercepted different vehicles at different locations to intercept the said truck.
The ASO team successfully to intercept the said vehicle near Sharaqpur Interchange Motorway and recovered huge quantity of foreign origin dry fruit and the subject goods along with truck were detained for detail examination and further investigation. The total value of the detained goods including the vehicle is more than Rs20 million.
It is necessary to mention here that Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi has directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
