LAHORE: The Customs Adjudication has imposed a 20 percent redemption fine on smuggled silicon steel sheets in coils weighing 16,200kg, enabling the lawful owner to take possession after paying the penalty amount.
The collectorate also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the mini-trucks that were used to supply the non-duty and taxes paid sheets out of Lahore.
The Directorate of Customs Investigation and Intelligence had seized the non-duty paid silicon sheets near Bhaati Gate area of Lahore after the owners failed to produce relevant documents.
The customs officials had seized the silicon steel sheets from two different trucks carrying sheets weighing 9,930kg and 6,270kg from accused Ishtiaq Ahmad and Faryad Ali, respectively.
The Orders-in-Original (ONOs) were passed by Adjudication Deputy Collector Muhammad Saeed Watoo, allowing the respondent party to appeal within the specified period.
