KARACHI: Custom Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has summoned the prosecution witnesses in a case of mis-declaration and loss to the government exchequer to the tune of Rs 69.2 million.
During the hearing, accused Syed Kashif Hussain appeared on bail. The court issued summoned the prosecution witnesses through investigation officer and adjourned the hearing for another date.
According to the prosecution, Syed Kashif Hussain, proprietor of M/s Pack N Move Kohinoor Electronics filed goods declaration through automatic web based system of Model Customs Collectorate for a consignment imported in the name of the Embassy of Turkmenistan. The importer declared description quantity as wine 516 litters, beer 360 litters, champagne 30 litters and liquor 15 litters.
However, during the examination, goods were found as whiskey 4,128 litters, Vodka 300 litters, Gin 300 litters and Beer 120 litters. According to the prosecution, it was found that the accused attempted to file mid-declaration and incur losses to the government exchequer to the tune of Rs. 69.2 million.
The investigation officer informed the court that after the formalities custom authorities seized the same and registered FIR against the accused person as violation of section 156 (1) (8) (9) (14) (45) (86) and (89) of the customs act 1969 complainant by Qamar Mubeen, appraising officer model custom collectorate Karachi.
