KARACHI: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has sent eight suspects to jail on judicial remand who were allegedly involved in smuggling of 26,500 liter diesel through wooden boat.
During the hearing of the case, Investigation Officer Ejaz Ali Jokhio produced the suspects, Muhammad Naeem , Ameer Shad, Muhammad Ghani, Zakir Hussain, Zahoorul Haq, Shah Khalid, Muhammad Yousaf and Muhammad Anwar in court. He submitted that he has completed the investigation and the suspects are not required for physical remand.
The investigation officer further stated that court may send them to jail on judicial remand, therefore, the court sent the accused persons on judicial remand and directed the investigation officer to submit complete challan on the next date of hearing. The court also directed the jail authorities to produce the accused on the next date of hearing.
According to the prosecution, on a credible information staff of the Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted the wooden boat when it came in Pakistani water and during search found smuggled non-duty paid 26500 liters diesel from their possession. The market value of seized diesel is Rs. 17, 75, 500.
According to the FIR, after formalities, customs authorities had arrested the above named accused persons and seized the said diesel and Al Nasiri named boat. Case was registered by Senior Preventive Officer Customs House Karachi in violation of section 2 (s) read with section 178 of Customs Act 1969 of section (1) ibid.
