ISLAMABAD: Adjudication Collector Seema Raza Bukhari has issued show cause notices to the proprietor of Universal Gateway Corporation Haji Muhammad Hasan and Proprietor Chaudhary Ehsanullah of New Ehsan enterprises in a case of illegally imported 97 containers of fabric from China. The national exchequer had to bear a loss of Rs 176 million. Additional Collector Adjudication had absolved the accused but Rawalpindi Directorate Customs Intelligence and Investigation had written a letter to FBR and requested to reopen the case. The imported fabric was Knitted Chenille but was shown as pile Knitted Stretchable fabric. The Directorate General Customs valuation said that the customs duty on fabric was $3.25/kg but the consignment was cleared at $2.10/kg. Consignment 97 of the Universal gateway was also cleared at the same rate and Rs 160 million tax theft was revealed.
