KARACHI: Collector, Customs Collectorate of Appraisement and Facilitation West Jamil Nasir Khan in a condolence message said “Totally devastated and in a state of disbelief. The customs fraternity lost Muhammad Zahid Khokhar today to COVID. He was a fatherly figure for us.
A noble soul and a thorough gentleman. He was my additional collector in sales tax, Faisalabad back in 2000 and again my Member Customs when I was Collector of Customs Appraisement Lahore. He never asked to do a favour to anybody which was not permissible under the law. When I was a posted as collector in Lahore immediately after promotion to BS-20 which I came to know of through notification of FBR website and after two days of notification when I assumed charge and called him to say thanks for not dislocating me from Lahore, his immediate response was that I did it on merit and want you to curb corruption and facilitate genuine trade at the ports of Lahore.
He was a big support in materializing the initiatives, both on soft and hard side, which me and my team took in Lahore. His untimely death is a big loss to the customs, his family, friends and to me at the personal level. He shall be remembered as a gentle, forgiving and noble soul for long time. We shall miss you Sir. Rest in peace. Ameen.”
