QUETTA: After directions from Collector Irfan Javed to curb smuggling, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement and Compliance (E&C) has adopted comprehensive strategy against smuggling in the region.
Sources told that Collector Irfan Javed received credible information that huge quantity of high valued contraband goods would be smuggled into the country.
The customs staff posted at Lakpass was directed to maintain a liaison with FC officers/officials for joint operation and to observe strict vigilance on the said routes.
Accordingly, on 3.10.2020 with the assistance of FC staff (78-Wing Chiltan Rifles) at about 1500 hours 10-vehicles were intercepted and after checking recovered auto-parts, betel nuts, blankets, cloth foreign origin, crockery, electronic items, medicines, foreign origin tea, tyres and tubes, soap, shampoo and other goods.
The approximate value of seized goods is Rs106 million. It is further added that the intensified anti-smuggling drive has resulted in the seizure of Rs223.10 million from 1st October till 6th October, 2020 as compared to the seizure of Rs131 million during the corresponding period of the last year.
