KARACHI: The matter of clearing a consignment has become the bone of contention between the Research and Development (R&D) Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) and importer M/s B&R Enterprises, it is learnt.
The R&D Section of MCC-Appraisement (East) has put hold on a consignment containing “Indolenz”, thicker substance than gum, while the importer M/s B&R Enterprises claimed that they imported gum not the Indolenz. The importer while responding on the hold put by the R&D Section on its Goods Declaration (GD) appealed the authorities concerned of MCC-Appraisement (East) to send the sample of the consignment to HEJ Laboratory for finding the nature of the imported consignment.
On the other hand, the officials concerned of R&D Section were of the view that why not the importer sends the sample in Custom Laboratory instead of HEJ Laboratory for testing. The R&D officials further said that during the examination it was found that the importer tried to import Indolenz in the garb of gum and attempted to evade duty/taxes as the import of Indolenz has fallen in the different PCT heading which has increased Custom Duty, Sales Tax and Income Tax as compare to simple gum.
The sources further revealed Customs Today that the importer has got the undue favour by some of the authorities concerned of the MCC-Appraisement (East) and that is why its appeal for sending samples to HEJ Laboratory has been approved.
