KARACHI: Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Nazim Saleem has asked all the relevant collectorates, including Customs Preventive, Karachi, Hyderabad, Gwadar, Quetta and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim, to present the progress report on tax-related cases pending in the honourable Sindh High Court (SHC).
Sources informed Customs Today that Nazim Saleem – on the directives of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman – has inquired about the tax-related cases, which are pending in the Sindh High Court (SHC).
Sources further informed this scribe that the FBR on March 18 sent a letter to the chief collector to present the list of tax-related pending cases in the SHC by the end of the current month.
Following the instructions, Chief Collector Nazim has asked the collectors of Customs Preventive, Hyderabad, Quetta, Gwadar and Port Muhammad Bin Qasim to produce the lists of pending cases in the office of the chief collector this week.
The sources further disclosed that the chief collector also directed all collectorates to submit the status of the pending cases on a weekly basis.
They further revealed that the FBR through such exercises wanted to be updated regarding the stuck-up revenue in terms of duty/tax, which is in litigation in Sindh High Court (SHC), in order to ensure recovery of the government’s revenue.
It is pertinent to mention here that the tax evasion case amounting to Rs 4145 million related to M/s Shaheen Air is one of the most significant cases, which is pending in the Sindh High Court, as the management of Shaheen Air has already moved the SHC.
