KARACHI: The Customs authorities held a meeting with the members of Rice Exporters’ Association in order to listen to their issues regarding export of rice to other countries.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Collector-Enforcement -South Muhammad Nazim Saleem, Collector-MCC Exports Javed Ghani, Additional Collector-ADC Irfan Javed and others while the office-bearers of Rice Exporters’ Association were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the office-bearers of Rice Exporters Association have presented refund and values issues before the Customs authorities.
The Chief Collector-Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem assured the rice exporters of early redressal of their issues.
The office-bearers of Rice Exporters Association were of the view that the exporters were facing hardships in refund of their bank guarantees, post dated cheques (PDCs) and indemnity of bonds after exporting the consignments.
They further said that the Customs authorities adopted a luke-warm approach in releasing the refunds to the exporters which on one hand creating difficulties and on the other hand, facing financial problems in exporting the rice consignments to other countries.
They further said that the rice is one of the major exports of the country which contributes a lot in foreign remittances of the country.
The Customs authorities noted all the grievances of the rice exporters and assured that their genuine issues would be resolved on war-footing basis.
