MULTAN: Chief Collector of Customs (Central-Enforcement) Zeba Hai Azhar visited Multan Customs Preventive to discuss future strategy against to eradicate the menace of smuggling from the region.
According to details, Chief Collector Zeba Hai Azhar paid her first visit to Multan Customs after becoming Chief Collector of Customs (Central-Enforcement). Chief Collector Zeba Hai Azhar presided over an important meeting in the Multan Customs Collectorate. Multan Customs Preventive Collector Muhammad Saleem gave briefing to the Chief Collector about the current performance of the Collectorate. On this occasion, Additional Collector Ali Abbas Gardezi, Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman, Deputy Collector Yousaf Ahmad Baloch, Assistant Collector Syed Jalal Haider Zaidi and Assistant Collector Muhammad Fahad Jamil were also present.
Collector Muhammad Saleem informed the Chief Collector that the Collectorate of Preventive has placed its entire focus on crackdown against non-duty paid goods and vehicles by devising aggressive strategy in the Jurisdiction.
He said Multan Customs has planned vigorous approach against smuggling in the Jurisdiction and huge quantity of smuggled vehicles and goods were seized during first two months of ongoing fiscal year 2018-19. Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized huge quantity of smuggled miscellaneous goods and vehicles worth Rs 133.18 million during successful crackdown on non-duty paid items in August by impounding almost 20 vehicles. Multan Customs has enhanced the surveillance of the different suspected areas of the Jurisdiction to thwart any smuggling attempt.
He said mutual efforts are required to curb the menace of smuggling in the region and Multan Customs is extending their coordination with law enforcement agencies to curb smuggling in the region, adding that elimination of smuggling in the jurisdiction will promote legitimate trade and create business friendly environment for local manufacturers and traders.
Chief Collector Zeba Hai Azhar asked Multan Collectorate to accelerate their drive against smuggling in future to eliminate menace of smuggling. The Chief Collector also visited entry points of the Collectorate from Dera Ghazi Khan Region after the meeting and directed the Collectorate to depute anti-smuggling squad on strategic locations for supervising or conducting joint anti-smuggling operations. Multan Customs was also instructed to make arrangements for extensive use of information technology tools for vigilance and monitoring of entry andexit points.
Chief Collector Zeba Hai Azhar has also appreciated the active performance of Multan Customs for increasing the revenue collection.
