ISLAMABAD: The Federal Revenue Alliance Employees Union in the Federal Board of Revenue’s has rejected the claim of the FBR that the union was illegal.
Central Secretary Information of the Union Rashid Mehmood said that National Industrial Relation Commission (NIRC)’s single bench of Baqir Ali Rana had suspended the union on March 21, 2014 at the FBR’s plea but the Islamabad High Court had suspended the decision of NIRC and had restored the union. He said that the FBR chairman was being misguided. He said the current FBR chairman himself had sent a letter of thanks to the union.
In an exclusive interview with Customs Today, Rashid Mehmood said that there is long legal battle between the FBR and the union. He said some officers of FBR are strongly against the existence of the union. He said the union was registered in 2010 and it completed three years in 2013 and internal elections were held thereupon in the union.
Rashid Mehmood said Registrar of Trade Union Lahore Chaudhry Shaukat Nawaz Goraya through written order had given acceptance of 70-member body of the union. On that, the FBR approached NICR that gave decision in favour of FBR, he said. Rashid Mehmood explained that the union filed writ petition against the decision of NICR’s single bench and requested the court that full bench of NICR should hear the case and that decision of single bench should be suspended, Rashid Mehmood revealed.
On that, the court suspended the decision of single bench of NICR and restored the union, he added. The NICR has not heard the case of the union since it does not maintain the required number of members, he said. For this, a full bench of NICR has not been constituted as yet, he added.
