TORONTO: A whopping 48 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of $2.4 million, were seized in a traffic stop in Milton, Peel police say.
Officers stopped a car and arrested a man near Highway 401 and Highway 25 around 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
The arrest was the result of a joint investigation between the major drugs and vice unit, the street crime gang unit, and the intelligence bureau.
Steven Richards, 26, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was also charged with failing to comply with recognizance.
The Brampton Guardian reports that Richards was out on bail after a fatal crash earlier this year.
An 18-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Nov. 21, just blocks from her home near Queen Street West and Chinguacousy Road.
A man named Steven Richards later surrendered to police. The woman, later identified as Mariel Garcia, died in hospital.
