SOFIA: Bulgarian customs officials have seized 5.6 kilograms of heroin at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint at the border with Turkey, the National Customs Agency said on Tuesday.
The narcotic was discovered in a German-registered Mercedes passenger car crossing Bulgaria en route from Turkey to Germany. Following an X-ray inspection of the vehicle, the customs officers discovered the heroin stashed in four metal canisters hidden in the fuel tank of the car.
The car driver, a Turkish citizen permamently residing in Germany, has been detained, the customs agency said in a statement.
