SAO PAULO: Brazil’s 2015 coffee exports could surpass the 2014 record after demand increased due to a weaker local currency, the executive director of Brazil’s coffee exporters association told Reuters on Wednesday.
Cecafe had previously warned exports would fall from the 36.3 million bags exported in 2014 after drought curbed output.
“We see a scenario in which we maybe achieve a higher number than in 2014,” said Cecafe’s Luciana Florencio, adding that exports of at least 36 million bags for this year were already confirmed.
She said the exports were depleting stocks in the world’s top coffee producer but did not have an estimate of how much. Cecafe said earlier on Wednesday Brazil exported 3.14 million bags of green coffee in November, following an upwardly revised October total shipment of 3.15 million bags.
