SIALKOT: On Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) cargo consignments examination process has been delayed due to heavy rain and precarious weather.
It is learnt more than seven containers were still waiting for clearance at the dry port. The staff of Sialkot Dry Port Trust (SDPT) was present for their routine responsibilities, but rain disturbed the examination process. Principle Appraiser Abdul Hameed was also present on the duty after his duty to examine the containers, but due to rain he was unable to perform his duties. At the same time export containers were facing hindrance due to rain and the containers were also not cleared due to precarious weather whereas rain water was moving in the premises of SDPT and containers were also halted in the water.
Principal Appraiser Adbul Hameed told Customs Today that the loaded containers were halted in the rain water and the examination of these containers cannot be done easily but after removing of water the examination process would be started and completed. He said that the water will be removed by water removing machine of SDPT after one or two days when the water level will decrease and the Customs Clearing Agents knows compulsion of Appraising Department and other Customs Department due to rainy season about clearance of cargo consignments.
Deputy Collector Waheed Anwar Abro said that the examination process cannot done during precarious weather because if they examine any loaded container or boxes of cargo consignments the condition of export items will damage. He said that the export items will clear in time and the export consignments will reach on their destination before time limit and time of letter of credit will not over rather it will be cleared before time.
