BRASILA: After two years of waiting, an agreement that raises vehicle import tariffs between the two countries promises to strengthen bilateral relations. With the opening of the country to foreign trade, another commercial agreement advanced to boost the Brazilian industry. Ordinance published on Friday (22) by the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC) zeroed import tariffs for vehicles between Brazil and Colombia. The agreement had been signed two years ago, was formalized last year, and only now becomes effective. In addition to the automotive industry, the agreement provides better access to the Colombian market for textiles and steel products.
“We understand that this will be a major boost to the Brazilian vehicle market, which has been improving its performance and will have an excellent market in Colombia, due to the geographical proximity,” says the Minister of the Ministry, Marcos Pereira.
This year, the automotive sector was one of the highlights in the Brazilian economy. After two years of decline, it has grown again and is expected to record record exports, in the accounts of the National Association of Manufacturers. of Automotive Vehicles (Anfavea).
According to the entity, the automakers already exported 700,900 vehicles from January to November, a record for the sector, which had sold 457,300 automobiles abroad last year and is expected to close this year with exports of 745,000 units .
