LONDON: Australian-born UK Greens leader Natalie Bennett has urged Downing Street to change the British electoral system.
Ms Bennett joined other politicians on Monday to hand in a petition calling for the UK to replace first-past-the-post voting with a proportional system.
She was among politicians from the Liberal Democrats, the Scottish National Party, Ukip and Plaid Cymru to back the petition, which was signed by almost 500,000 people.
The Greens received 1.16 million votes in the May 7 general election but won only one seat in Westminster. The party would have won around 24 seats under a proportional system.
