ISLAMABAD: Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) Chairman Javid Iqbal has demanded the federal government provide him the benefits and privileges as entitled to judges of the higher courts.
Talking to the Customs Today, the chairman argued for similar benefits as of higher courts judges, stating that the eligibility criterion to recruit ATIR chairman and judicial member was identical to the applicants for higher courts judges’ posts.
The judges of the higher courts were getting immense benefits and privileges as compared to the ATIR chairman and judicial members, he said, adding that it was clear discrimination. He questioned why the benefits were differing if the scale and recruitment criterion was the same. He underscored that the ATIR judges must be given chances for elevation to the higher courts as well.
He demanded the Ministry of Law and Justice revisit their policy relating to the appointment of the ATIR chairman and judicial members and provide them similar benefits and privileges.
While mentioning some of the most significant differing benefits, he stated that the upper age limit for ATIR judges was different than judges of the higher courts. He said ATIR judges must be allowed to work for the same age as of higher courts judges.
