FAISALABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Faisalabad has impounded a smuggled Toyota corolla car valued at Rs1million involving customs duties and taxes of Rs350000.
Sources told Customs Today that, following a tip-off received by Collector Muhammad Sadiq, the ASO team conducted a raid near Chak-57 JB Bra Ghayala Kalan Faisalabad and intercepted a foreign origin F/O Toyota corolla car with registration No: LEH-17-4457, Model 1993, smuggled into the country without payment of customs duties and taxes after getting a search warrant from judicial magistrate Faisalabad.
The staff reported to the police station concerned and obtained a report from the station and raided the said premises for the recovery of the vehicle following complete SOPs.
The search warrant was handed over to servant Mian Maqsood son of Abdul Rehman and the vehicle was taken into possession. Owner of the vehicle has neither contacted the ASO offices Faisalabad nor has produced any proof of the lawful import.
So the ASO impounded the smuggled vehicle under Section 2(S) read with SRO 566 (1) 2005 Section 16, 18, 168, of the Customs Act-1969 and Section 3 of Sales Tax Act-1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 read with Section 3 (1) 3 of Import & Export Control Act-1950 which is punishable under Section 156 (1)90 of the Customs Act-1969 read with SRO 499 (I)/2009 after the completion of all the legal formalities.
A seizure report along with an enclosure was sent to the Customs Adjudication Department for further legal action.
