FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) thwarted smuggling attempt by seizing huge quantity of plastic bags worth Rs88 million near Faisalabad during anti-smuggling operation.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs E&C received credible information that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported though Faisalabad region.
Collector Muneeza Majeed directed Additional Collector II of MCC Faisalabad Ghulam Nabi Kamboh Faisalabad region and Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmad to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
Collector Muneeza Majeed stepped up the anti-smuggling in the jurisdiction on the special directives of Chief Collector Customs Enforcement Lahore Faiz Ahmad.
Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh and Deputy Collector Maqbool Ahmad formed special team comprising Inspector Waqas Leghari, Inspector Muhammad Azhar Zaheer and Inspector Khalid Mehmood Gujjar along with other staff to take action against smuggled goods.
Customs anti-smuggling Faisalabad deputed staff at various strategic points to intercept the said trucks by recovering huge amount quantity of plastic bags after the lock down. During the past few days after lifting lockdown, Customs Enforcement & Compliance Multan has thwarted over a dozen of major smuggling attempts in jurisdiction.
Customs staff of MCC Multan intercepted three trucks containing smuggled goods. Anti-Smuggling staff of Faisalabad Customs teams recovered almost 23 tons of plastic bags during their action and seized plastic bags along with vehicles from three various trucks and net value of the seized goods was almost Rs81 million.
Customs Investigation and Prosecution has also started legal action to lodge FIR against offenders for smuggling plastic bags. Further investigations are still under way.
