ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Denmark have a wide scope for cooperation in different fields, especially in agriculture and Pakistan can get benefits of agriculture and farming experiences of Denmark which has made the latter one of the most prosperous countries of the worlds.
Denmark Ambassador in Pakistan Jesper Moller Sorensen stated this while addressing International Food Conference here.
He pointed out that his country like Pakistan had long agricultural traditions and agriculture and farming was one of the most important factors for Denmark’s ranking among the world’s most prosperous countries. The Danish envoy revealed that food and agriculture products accounted for 24 percent of Denmark’s total exports.
Ambassador Sorensen pointed out that globalisation in food trade would continue as more food would be imported, and exports would increase. The global food supply is going from surplus to shortage as the world population is growing with each day.
He said that in 2050 the world’s population would be around nine billion, which is two billion more than today’s. But as consumers’ habits and preferences change in favour of more animal products, we would eat like 12 billion people. That is almost double the amount of food today, he said.
He informed the participants that his embassy had started to reach out to the business community back home in Denmark, and one major agriculture consultancy company participated in the first ever Danish business delegation which visited Pakistan last month.
