HERAT CITY: The governor said here the other day that intelligence officials had prevented seven historic artifacts from being smuggled out of western Herat province.
Mohammad Asif Rahimi told a news conference here the relicts recued were 700 to 1,000 years old and related to Timurid, Bactria and Ghori eras.
The monuments prevented from smuggling included a golden cup, a bronze tankard, a bronze bowl, a mud made jug, a bronze cooking pot, a cupper jug and the cap of a sugar bowl, he said.
The governor said the smugglers wanted to export the historic objects to foreign countries, but their attempt was foiled by Afghan intelligence forces.
Meanwhile, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) confirmed seizing the monuments and said the smugglers detained would be brought to justice.
The NDS did not provide details about the number of detainees and the location where they were detained.
