KARACHI: In addition to 10,276 used cars, 58 new cars and 661 used commercial vehicles were imported into the country during the first five months of the current fiscal ended November 30, 2014.
The statistics made available to Customs Today by All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association show that the import of 58 new cars valued Rs 136 million contributed customs duty of Rs 126 million to the national exchequer. According to the details, 44 new 1601-1800cc; five new cars up to 1000cc cars; four new 1801-3000cc cars; four new above 3000cc new and one new four-by-four jeep were imported. Sixty-six new vans and two new trucks/spraying lorries were also imported. During the period under discussion, 5,29 used vans, 46 used pickups and 18 used motorcycles were also imported.
The value of 529 used vans totalled Rs 483 million on which Rs 151 million Customs Duty was paid. The total value of 46 used pickups was Rs 81.4 million on which Rs 37.5 million Customs Duty was paid. The two new trucks valued Rs 1.9 million and contributed Rs 0.575 million in Customs Duty while the cumulative value of 66 new vans was Rs 81.5 million on which Rs 16.3 million Customs Duty was paid. The 18 used motorcycles valued Rs 7.2 million on which Rs 4.6 million Customs Duty was collected. The used vans and used pickups were imported under the Personal Baggage Scheme while 18 used two-wheelers were imported under the Transfer of Residence Scheme.
