KARACHI: The City plunged into darkness early Sunday due to a major electrical breakdown.
Electricity transmission from the national grid to Karachi was abruptly suspended causing a power shutdown in Nazimabad, Defence, Sharea Faisal, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Nursery, PECHS, Shah Faisal, New Karachi, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi and other areas of the provincial capital city.
A K-Electric spokesman said the breakdown was caused due to a technical fault in one of the high voltage transmission lines supplying electricity to Karachi from the national grid. He further said that the 500kv transmission line had tripped due to humidity and fog. He said the repair work would take hours. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan took notice of the breakdown and ordered relevant officials to ensure resumption of electricity supply to the city as soon as possible.
