DAMMAM: Banned in Saudi Arab; 35 000 cans containing beer were confiscated by the customs authority which were found hidden in plastic boxes branded apricot jam.
However, suspending the food shipment, customs men at the eastern port of Dammam decided to open the container and search its contents.
“We found nearly 35,900 alcoholic beer cans concealed in plastic boxes carrying the name apricot jam,” said Ghannam Al Ghannam, director of the customers department at the King Abdul Aziz port in Dammam.
Alcohol is strictly banned in oil superpower Saudi Arabia, one of the most conservative Muslim nations.
