DHAKA: Customs officials have seized 160 gold bars weighing 20kg from a flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
The gold was dumped in a lavatory bin of a flight of Regent Airways which landed at the airport around 5:15am, said Wazed Ali, assistant commissioner of Customs. None was arrested in this connection.
The gold bars were found wrapped in eight pieces of black cloth which current market price is worth around Tk 8 crore, he said.
On secret information that someone was smuggling gold, the Customs official searched the aircraft- RX-783-that came from Malaysia and made the recovery, the Customs official said.
