1,860MW power projects to end energy crisis: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the government has decided to end energy crisis by expediting the two projects, including 1,200 MW power project by China Power International Holding and 660 MW by Engro Powergen Ltd at Thar coal.

The minister disclosed this, while presiding over the 98th meeting of PPIB Board. He said the Letters of Interest would soon be issued to both the projects. He said that it was also decided to advertise the 350 MW Athmuqam Hydropower Project. This project is located on river Neelum in AJ&K and aim of initiating this project is to renew investor interest in the area.

Khawaja Asif revealed that various power projects had already been signed during the recent visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to China, and the Chinese companies are eager to invest in Pakistan. He said that during the visit of PM, SukiKinari hydro project of 870 MW was also signed. This project is to be developed at District Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that the government would overcome power load-shedding through prudent policies and projects. He said that the government has initiated various energy projects in different parts of the country on coal, wind, hydro and solar. He said power projects in Thar would be completed in two to three years to meet the energy shortage.
