KARACHI: During the first five months of the current fiscal year ended November 30, at least 10,276 used cars were imported into the country as compared to 9,399 used cars imported during the same period last year thus depicting an increase of almost 10 percent.
Statistics compiled by All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association show that the total value of the 10,276 used cars imported during July-November this year added up to over Rs 5,635 million which contributed over Rs 3,976 million to the national exchequers in duty and taxes.
A total of 1,747 used cars were imported last month. As usual the majority of used cars; 10,217, imported during July-November this year were under the Personal Baggage Scheme while only 59 were imported under the Transfer of Residence Scheme. Not a single used car has been imported under the Gift Scheme during July-November, 2014.
Cars up to 1000cc engine capacity appeared to be the most favourite and during the period under discussion, a 7,836 units of it were imported followed by 1,188 units of 1601-1800cc cars; 747 1301-1500cc cars; 408 4×4 jeeps; 20 1001-1300cc cars; 10 1801-3000cc cars and 8 above 3000cc cars. Not a single 1501-1600cc engine used car was imported during July-November this year.
