FAISALABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) General Manager Amjad Mumtaz has said that despite shortage gas supply to Faisalabad is continued.
He said this while addressing a meeting of businessmen and industrialists during his visit to the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).
Amjad Mumtaz said that the company was taking steps to stop illegal installation of compressors on domestic gas connections. He said that the major reasons behind gas shortage are depletion of existing gas reservoirs, and increase in gas demand. He further said that the government was fully aware of the problem of gas shortage and was making earnest efforts to explore new gas reservoirs in addition to making arrangements for its import.
The SNGPL general manager dismissed allegations that some areas were being preferred when it came to distribution of supply. “A campaign has been launched against illegal installation of compressors and so far 100 compressors have been removed in addition to taking action against the violators.”
Addressing on the occasion, FCCI President Engineer Rizwan Ashraf said that it was a general practice to suspend gas supply to industrial sector during winter every year.
“This practice is not only detrimental to the production process but was also causing unemployment in addition to depriving government from much needed foreign exchange and revenues.”
