KARACHI: Today is the last date of submitting tax returns. The national treasury will suffer billions of rupees losses if the Federal Board of Revenue fails to achieve the said target.
The number of tax-payers has reduced to 0.5 million from 1.1 million. According to the FBR in 2009, 1.1 million tax-payers submitted their tax returns. This figure was 0.53 million in 2013 and now in 2014 this figure could not increase from 0.5 million, despite extension in date.
Actually introduction of a new software is the main cause of enhancement in due date of tax returns from September 30 to November 21. Business community said that the online system, consisting of dozen of pages by the authorities, is causing problems for the taxpayers. They also said that the tax department tried to resolve this issue by opening banks and tax offices late night during the last two days.
Traders said that registration of the taxpayers was not done in time, and during registration extra documents were demanded, attachment of irrelevant annexure and stressed on online submission of forms are the main causes for not fulfilling the said target.
