COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Customs Department has seized yet another container load of ethanol in Orugodwattta here the other day.
Customs Spokesperson Leslie Gamini has said the consignment of ethanol had been illegally imported from Thailand.
The official noted that the consignment has been valued Rs.1.68 million and was seized at the Orugodwattta Custom’s Warehouse.
According to reports, the 20-foot container, which had 16,000 liters of ethanol, had been imported from Thailand by a company based in Ratmalana on February 5.
The consignment had been declared as Calcium Hypochlorite Granular to the Customs, bank and shipping agents.
The Customs Department added that if the ethanol consignment had been released, the tax revenue lost by the state would have been three fold to the value of the consignment.
