KARACHI: The federal government has not returned Rs 650 million to the Sindh Excise Department.
The Sindh government has decided to take up the issue again with the federal government with full vigour while the provincial government has stopped increase in taxes levied on vehicles imposed by the federal government.
According to the details, federal government had deducted Rs 650 million directly from banks in the financial year 2012 because of difference in withholding tax collected by the Sindh Excise Department but later on, the Sindh Excise Department completed collection of taxes and deposited in national exchequer. But FBR has not returned the amount to the Sindh government.
The sources in the Sindh government said that the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department held meetings with the FBR several times and sent letters in this regard but the amount has not been returned to the Sindh Excise Department.
According to sources, the Sindh Excise and Taxation Department while briefing Sindh Chief Minister about increased taxes issue on transfer of vehicles by the federal government, told him that if they implement federal government tax, then vehicle owners will not pay annual tax which will cause loss to the provincial government.
