NEW YORK: Rolls Royce has announced to start production of Cullinan in 2017 at an expected price of £250,000 to £280,000. Cullinan SUV will add 1,500 units per month.
According to design head, Giles Taylor, the SUV will be carefully designed and positioned so that the Phantom continues to be the flagship offering. However, the SUV’s length will be nearly as long as the Phantom with a modern front, he told the publication.
Based on an all-new aluminium architecture, the SUV will be riding on a Phantom-like spaceframe chassis, the publication reports. Power is likely to come from a redeveloped version of the Phantom’s 6.8-liter V12 engine.
After Rolls-Royce finally admitted that they are working on a car that wouldn’t be confined to the best asphalt in the world via an open letter, artists around the world started thinking about how it would look like. Self-proclaimed automotive manipulator, Theophilus Chin was the first one to come out with one and here it is.
Of course, guessing the direction in which the Brits are going to head regarding this future model is really hard to do. Even in their letter they claim that the car will not be an SUV but instead a Rolls that can cover all types of terrain with ease.
In doing so, they even point out to some older endeavors of previous owners that took their luxurious rides across incredible types of roads and managed to live and tell the story. Therefore, even if the ground clearance will be higher, chances are this thing won’t look like an old-school SUV, even if it will be based on the BMW X7.
That’s right, Rolls-Royce doesn’t have the means to develop its own new model so they will most likely be adopting the underpinnings from BMW’s upcoming luxurious cruiser, the X7. That means we’ll be looking at a car that will most likely be well over 5 meters (197 inches) in length, probably closer to 6 meters, just like the Phantom is right now.
As you can see, the design cues Theophilus worked with here come from the smaller Ghost model and are combined with the proportions of the long wheelbase Range Rover, yet another Brit by definition.
