KARACHI: Pakistan Tax Forum has sought extension in the last date of tax amnesty scheme by Federal Board of Revenue saying that it holds the potential to add up to Rs 718 billion in the gross domestic product (GDP) annually.
The demand was raised by Pakistan Tax Forum President Zulfiqar Khan while speaking at a meeting. He said that the initiative taken by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was well timed and in right direction as the size of parallel economy was growing with every passing day.
Zulfiqar Khan said that the parallel economy is about 70 per cent of the size of the total economy. He said that there should be at least one month extension for the tax amnesty scheme as the economy would get necessary strength when more people would be joining the tax net.
