KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II is continuing its adjudicating proceedings against the importer M/s Zong CM-Pakistan Telecommunication Limited in its alleged involvement in tax evasion amounting to millions of rupees on import of telecommunication equipments, it is learnt here.
According to details, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation-FBR Karachi Region as a detecting agency found that the importer M/s Zong CM-Pakistan imported telecommunication equipments including ASR 5000 Multimedia Core Platform with all standard accessories, dense wave division and multiplexing system by mis-declaration the goods under PCT 8471.5000 attracting Customs Duty at 1 percent, whereas the goods are correctly classifiable under PCT heading 8517.6290 chargeable to Customs Duty at 20 percent.
During scrutinizing the import data, the authorities concerned of Customs Intelligence found that the importer M/s Zong CM-Pakistan Telecommunication Limited by mis-declaration of classification have evaded/short paid Customs Duty; Sales Tax and Income Tax worth millions of rupees.
The adjudicating authorities reacting upon the contravention report sent by the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi Region has served show-cause notice to the importer M/s Zong CM-Pakistan Telecommunication Limited.
The adjudicating authorities are determining the veracity of tax evasion case reported against the importer M/s Zong CM-Pakistan Telecommunication Limited.
